A new electronic device that is worn in the ear is helping patients overcome severe speech problems.
The SpeechEasy device, which is smaller than a hearing aid, has been shown to reduce stammering in 80% of users.
The implant picks up the wearer's voice and plays it back with a delay of around one hundred milliseconds and at a higher pitch.
It sounds like someone else is speaking the same words at the same time.
